Strength training is the latest trend in fitness. The recent surge of female bodybuilders, weight lifting and other strength-based exercises has been sparked by the recent consumer awareness. With the growing number of reports that show the importance of strength training, women have been catching the fever to exercise.

The United States government endorses the new strength training frenzy. Their objective is to increase the percentage of adults who engage in weight lifting or bodybuilding by a minimum of 30 by the year 2010. According to a report released by the Associated Press, approximately one in five women across the nation does works out a minimum of twice a week.

Women are inspired to workout to achieve a better body and to prevent osteoporosis or bone loss. The findings of these new exercise trends were unveiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The analysis evaluated the national prevalence of weight lifting as well as other forms of physical activity.

At least twice a week, twenty percent of adults do strength training almost 20 percent of women are physically active or follow a fitness regimen. In comparison to the late 1990's barely 14 percent exercises on a semi-weekly basis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) did not find any change in consistency rate of the male work out schedule. (Almost a fourth of American men workout on a regular regimen. (Other findings of this report are published in the July 2006 volume of the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Exercise Tip: To maximize the health benefits of exercise (physical activity), workout at least four times a week for 20 - 30 minutes.
